Terrible relationship with Mom

I'm a single parent who has to live with my parents for support in terms of long working hours shifts etc. My mom and I have always had an acrimonious relationship. I remember being 7 years old being called a stu':= little bi*':. Today in an argument she swore at me and said really ugly profane things in front of my 4 year old child. I left his father because he was abusive and I believe that my low self esteem is the result of years of abuse from my mother weather she intended it or not. After having my child have to wipe my tears today I am tempted to try make it work on my own with nanny's and baby sitters. Advice from single parents with no family support is welcome.
