Hi Dr Joy, I hope u can help me, my embarrasing situation is my knees and elbows, I am very fair skinned and since I was in my teens, my knees and elbows just got darker and darker.this is so very embarrasing especially in summer, I have tried rubbing lemon , scrub it everyday, used skin lightening products but it does not help.
Please please can u help me, just so the darkness goes away?
I don't think there is pigment on that areas, please help?

My apologies for not replying sooner.

Dark discolouration of the knees and elbows can have various causes which includes exposure to environmental pollution and dry skin

It is important that you follow a healthy diet, drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to provide the skin with the nourishment it needs. You should also take 1 tsp of olive oil and 1 tsp of flaxseed oil daily.

There is a product by natura that you can try which helps with pigmentation problems. It is called pigment

Dark Elbows:

Natural home remedy using lemons:

1. Cut a lemon in 2 halves
2. Run the lemon on each elbow for 5 min
3. Leave it for 3-4 hr
4. Scrub with a rough towel
5. Wash it off with lukewarm water
6. Do this 2-3 times a week

Natural home remedy using yogurt and vinegar:

1. Take 2 tbsp yogurt
2. Add 2 tsp vinegar
3. Mix well
4. Apply the mixture on the elbows
5. Leave it for 20-30 min
6. You may wrap a cloth on the elbow to hold the mixture
7. Wash it off with lukewarm water

Natural home remedy using cucumber, lemon juice and turmeric powder:

1. Take a half peeled cucumber
2. Crush it to a paste
3. Press this paste on a sieve and extract juice
4. Take 1 tsp of this juice
5. Add 1 tsp lemon juice
6. Add tsp turmeric powder
7. Mix well
8. Apply on the affected area
9. Wash off after 20 min
10. Do this 4 times a week

Natural home remedy using sandalwood powder and rosewater:

1. Take 2 tsp sandalwood powder
2. Add 2 tsp rosewater
3. Massage on the underarms for 5 min
4. Wash off after 30 min

Natural home remedy using chickpea flour, lemon and yogurt:

1. Take 2 tbsp chickpea flour
2. Add 2 tbsp lemon juice to it
3. Add 2 tbsp yogurt
4. Mix well
5. Apply and massage for 5 min
6. Wash off after 2 hr
7. Place a cloth on your underarms to avoid contact with clothes
